Karachi, July 3: Provincial Energy Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah announced that K-Electric, through the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company (STDC), will supply 40 MW of electricity to the National Steel Complex (NSCL) via a 132 kV transmission line. This announcement was made during a memorandum of understanding (MoU) signing ceremony held at the Sindh Energy Department office. Minister for Local Government Saeed Ghani was also present.
Minister Shah emphasized the significance of this project, which includes constructing the transmission line from K-Electric Pipri Grid Station to NSCL, meeting the 40 MW power requirement at Port Qasim, Karachi. The MoU was signed by CEO STDC Mr. Mohammad Saleem Shaikh, CEO NSCL Mr. Zaigham Adil Rizvi, and CEO K-Electric Limited Mr. Moonis Abdullah Alvi.
This initiative is expected to boost private investor confidence in the Sindh Transmission and Dispatch Company and the Department of Energy, contributing to job creation and economic growth in Sindh. Minister Shah highlighted other efforts under his leadership to develop sustainable power infrastructure, attracting notable local and foreign investments.
CEO STDC Muhammad Saleem Shaikh noted that on June 13, 2024, an MoU was signed between STDC and GO Energy for Pakistan’s first 500 MW floating solar power project. This project involves constructing a 220 kV transmission line from Kenjhar Lake Power Project to K-Electric Dhabiji Grid Station in Karachi, expected to be completed by the end of 2026.
Additionally, on June 15, 2024, an MoU was signed between STDC and Gul Ahmed Group to build a 132 kV transmission line from the Jhampir Wind Corridor power plant to Gul Ahmed Group in Landhi. This 60 km transmission line, intended for 100 MW wind power, is expected to be completed by the end of 2027.
The Sindh government is committed to accelerating the use of renewable resources, aiming to reduce the overall basket tariff of the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) and make electricity more affordable for the public. Renewable energy projects are also aligned with the Sustainable Development Goals, aiming to create a clean, reliable, and sustainable environment.
Sindh Energy Secretary Mussadiq Ahmed Khan was also present at the ceremony.
